Bitdefender and Avira both provide top-of-the-line malware detection rates, reliable real-time protection, and reliable ransomware protection. They’re also both really easy to use, meaning that even novices to cybersecurity can be up and running in a short time. Both of them offer additional features like a VPN as well as shredder for files, and other privacy protections.
Avira and Bitdefender have both received top scores from independent testing laboratories. However, in this test I’d like to give the advantage to Bitdefender because of its superior performance in the AVComparatives Performance Test, which gauges how much impact security software can have on a computer’s speed. The low score indicates that it runs in the background and doesn’t significantly slowing down your PC — unlike some competitors.
AV-Comparatives also tests for the impact each product’s features have on the performance of the system when performing regular computer tasks, such as downloading files from websites, and copying files. Bitdefender was the only competitor to pass this test with a perfect score while Avira came in an impressive second.
Both companies offer a decent level of customer support. Avira has a helpful knowledge base and YouTube channel, whereas Bitdefender offers a comprehensive support hub that includes a phone line with live chat, email support, and videos that show how to use the service. The support hub is organized by product, allowing you to quickly find the assistance you require.
