McAfee is a long-standing participant in the field of antivirus. It was founded in 1988, and is recognized for its firewalls, antispam products, encryption of files and public key infrastructure. However, it is best known for its anti-virus program and has a stronghold on the market. Its security suites offer comprehensive protection against viruses and malware and are supported by a one-million dollar identity theft guarantee.

Every McAfee plan comes with an advanced malware scanner that can impede the entry of malware into your computer system and kill or block the viruses that have already infiltrated it. Its real-time engine stops malware files from downloading and reroutes, encrypts and reroutes information so that your online activity can’t be intercepted.

McAfee consistently scored highly during our tests in both the AV-Test 0-day test, as well as our malware protection test. It also scored 100 percent in our privacy tests.

The interface of the suite is easy to navigate and simple to use. Accessing features such as parental controls and identity theft protections is an issue, though. They’re separated into separate menus on the dashboard. Support is a little difficult to find. The McAfee community forum is active, but you’ll need to pay for Techmaster Concierge to get help with more complicated issues.

The only major disappointment was that McAfee’s system scanner did not clean up some junk files we had on our test systems. It also does not offer an option to drag and drop a folder or file into the suite to scan, as many competitors do. This is a big no-no for a security suite that costs this much.
